Directed Energy Weapons (commonly abbreviated as DEWs) are a class of weapons systems that deliver highly focused energy — in the form of electromagnetic radiation, lasers, microwaves, particle beams, or sonic waves — to a target at or near the speed of light. More controversially, infrasonic weapons operating below the threshold of human hearing are reported to produce profound psychological effects including panic, disorientation, visual disturbances, and a pervasive sense of dread.
