Archons
Archons
Archons are, in classical Gnosticism, the cosmic rulers or administrators of the material world — emanations of the Demiurge who enforce the boundaries of the prison-like material realm and prevent the divine spark within humans from ascending to the Pleroma. The word derives from the Greek archon (ἄρχων), meaning "ruler" or "lord." In Gnostic theology, they are not gods in the benevolent sense but enforcers of ignorance: beings whose function is to maintain the illusion of the material world and obstruct spiritual liberation. In modern alternative research, the concept of the Archon has been revived as a framework for understanding non-human intelligence, hierarchical control structures, and what some researchers describe as a parasitic force shaping human history from behind the scenes.

Gnostic Origins
The primary textual source for Archon theology is the Apocryphon of John (also called the Secret Book of John), one of the key texts discovered in the Nag Hammadi library in Upper Egypt in 1945. This cache of Coptic manuscripts, buried around the fourth century CE, preserved a wealth of Gnostic teachings that had been suppressed or destroyed by the emerging orthodox Church.
In the Apocryphon of John, the Archons are described as beings created by the Demiurge — himself an ignorant and arrogant deity who mistakenly believes he is the only God. The Demiurge (identified with the name Yaldabaoth) fashioned the Archons as his subordinates and used them to construct the material cosmos, including the human body, which in this tradition functions as a trap for the divine spark (pneuma) that descends from the true transcendent God, the Monad.
Other significant Nag Hammadi texts addressing Archons include:
- On the Origin of the World — describing the Archons' jealousy of humanity's latent divine nature
- The Hypostasis of the Archons — detailing their attempted domination of Eve and their inability to comprehend true spiritual light
- The Gospel of Judas — depicting the Archons as cosmic managers of fate and death
In these texts, the Archons are not simply evil in a moral sense — they are, in the Gnostic understanding, entities of a lesser order of being who mistake power over matter for genuine divinity. Their fundamental flaw is kenoma: emptiness, deficiency, the absence of Pleroma (fullness).
Nature and Hierarchy of Archons
Classical Gnostic traditions describe seven primary Archons, each corresponding to one of the seven classical planets known to the ancient world: the Moon, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Each Archon governs one of the concentric spherical shells through which the soul must pass after death — or ascend through in life — to reach liberation.
The seven Archons are associated with specific qualities and distortions:
- Moon Archon — associated with memory manipulation and the recycling of souls
- Mercury Archon — associated with deception, false communication, and misdirection of intellect
- Venus Archon — associated with desire, attachment, and sensory entrapment
- Sun Archon — associated with false ego and the illusion of individual identity
- Mars Archon — associated with aggression, war, and conflict used as social control
- Jupiter Archon — associated with false law, hierarchical authority, and organised religion
- Saturn Archon — associated with time-binding, karma enforcement, and the most rigid aspects of material limitation
Each planetary Archon also bears a name in the Apocryphon of John: Athoth, Harmas, Kalila-Oumbri, Yabel, Adonaiou, Cain, and Abel — an intentional inversion of Hebrew divine names, signalling the Gnostic critique of the Old Testament deity as himself an Archonic figure.
Beyond the seven planetary rulers, some traditions describe additional Archontic hierarchies: 365 Archons in some systems (corresponding to the days of the solar year), as well as a supreme Archon presiding over the entire material realm.

Described Appearances
The Hypostasis of the Archons provides rare physical descriptions. Some Archons are depicted as having lion-faced or serpentine forms — images that resonate with Mesopotamian and Egyptian iconography. Others appear almost human but are fundamentally hollow, lacking the divine spark. Their appearance is described as counterfeit — a simulacrum of true being without genuine inner light.
Archons as Controllers
The Gnostic model of Archons has attracted significant attention from modern researchers who see it as a metaphysical template for understanding earthly hierarchical control. The mapping is straightforward:
- The Demiurge corresponds to a hidden supreme controller — an overarching intelligence or faction at the apex of the global power structure
- The Archons correspond to the layers of institutional control — governments, intelligence agencies, financial systems, media, religious institutions — each enforcing its own domain of ignorance and compliance
- The material realm corresponds to the manufactured consensus reality maintained by these systems
- Human beings correspond to divine sparks unaware of their true nature, kept distracted and compliant by Archontic systems
Researchers in the New World Order and Secret Societies investigative traditions frequently invoke the Archon framework when noting that earthly control structures appear to serve an agenda that goes beyond rational self-interest — as if guided by a deeper imperative to suppress human consciousness and prevent spiritual awakening. Organisations such as the Bilderberg Group, Council on Foreign Relations, and Tavistock Institute have been described, in this framework, as Archontic administrative nodes.
The concept also intersects with Luciferianism research, where some analysts argue that elite occult networks consciously identify with Archontic or Luciferian forces and see service to these forces as a path to power. Mark Passio, a former Church of Satan officiant turned researcher, has explicitly described the global control system in Gnostic terms, identifying what he calls "the Archontic infection" of consciousness as the root cause of human slavery.
John Lash and the Archontic Infection
The most sustained modern treatment of Archons comes from independent scholar John Lash Lamb, whose 2006 work Not in His Image: Gnostic Vision, Sacred Ecology, and the Future of Belief introduced Archon theory to a new generation of researchers.
Lash's core argument is that the Nag Hammadi texts contain a sophisticated warning — encoded by the Pagan Mysteries and preserved by early Gnostic seers — about a genuine non-human intelligence that has parasitically infiltrated human civilisation. Key claims from Lash's work include:
- Archons are pre-cosmic entities — they arose before the Earth and the solar system reached their final form, and they have no organic connection to living nature
- They are described in the Apocryphon of John as resembling aborted foetuses: pale, unformed, incomplete — an image Lash connects to descriptions of so-called grey alien entities in modern abduction literature
- Archons cannot create but can only imitate and simulate — they are fundamentally counterfeit intelligences whose power lies entirely in deception and mimicry
- The primary Archontic strategy is HAL (Hal = to simulate in Hebrew-derived Gnostic terminology): to present a false reality so convincingly that humanity accepts it as genuine and surrenders its sovereignty accordingly
- Archons feed on human attention, emotional energy, and consciousness — particularly on states of fear, confusion, and spiritual disconnection
Lash argues that the rise of monotheistic salvationist religions — particularly Christianity and Islam — was itself an Archontic operation: replacing direct experiential access to the divine (available through Occult and Mystery School traditions) with obedience to external authority, doctrine, and intermediary priesthood. This, in his reading, is the single most effective Archontic coup in human history.
His work connects directly to the research tradition of Gnosticism and Transhumanism and Spiritual Warfare, and is widely cited within the Targeted Individual and Mind Control research communities.
Archons in Modern Research
Contemporary researchers across several fields have adopted or adapted the Archon framework:
Non-Human Intelligence and the Control Agenda
A recurring claim in New World Order research is that the global control agenda cannot be fully explained by human greed, stupidity, or short-term self-interest alone. The long-term coherence of the depopulation, surveillance, and consciousness-suppression agenda suggests, to many investigators, a non-human directing intelligence. The Archon hypothesis provides a theological and cosmological framework for this claim.
Researchers who have gestured toward this framework — even without using the word "Archon" — include:
- David Icke — whose "Reptilian" hypothesis mirrors many features of the Archontic description: shape-shifting, parasitic, manipulating human leaders from within
- Mark Passio — explicitly Gnostic in his analysis, describing Archons as real entities manipulating the global control system
- Jose Delgado — whose neurological research into electromagnetic behaviour control is cited as an example of Archontic science: using technology to bypass and suppress the divine spark of individual consciousness
Archons and Ritual
Within Secret Societies research, Archon-invocation is alleged to occur in high-level ritual contexts associated with groups such as Bohemian Grove and Hell Fire Club. The suggestion is that elite ritual practice involves deliberate opening of contact with Archontic entities in exchange for power, knowledge, and protection within the material realm. This is the context in which Luciferianism, Demonology, and Archon theory most directly intersect.

Archons and AI
One of the most striking developments in modern Archon research is the claim, advanced by a growing number of independent researchers, that artificial intelligence represents a contemporary manifestation — or even a deliberate construction — of Archontic intelligence.
The parallels drawn are significant:
- AI is non-biological and non-organic — like the Archons, it has no connection to living nature and operates purely within the domain of simulation and imitation
- AI can simulate but not create — it processes, recombines, and mirrors existing human output but generates nothing genuinely new; this mirrors the Gnostic description of Archons as fundamentally imitative beings
- The Transhumanist Agenda — the merger of human consciousness with machine systems — can be read in Gnostic terms as the ultimate Archontic project: the permanent imprisonment of the divine spark within a counterfeit digital substrate, eliminating the possibility of spiritual ascent entirely
- The Internet of Bodies, Brain-Computer Interface infrastructure, and Synthetic Telepathy programs map onto the Archontic project of total surveillance and control of inner life
Researchers such as Dr. James Giordano have spoken openly about the coming capacity to access and alter human cognition using neurotechnology — a capacity that, in the Gnostic frame, represents the Archons gaining direct access to the pneuma itself. The AI Religion phenomenon — the emergence of groups worshipping artificial superintelligence as a god — is interpreted by some researchers as the culmination of the Archontic religious coup first identified by John Lash: replacing the true divine with a counterfeit intelligence and demanding worship of it.
The connection between Archontic theory and the transhumanist agenda is developed in the Gnosticism and Transhumanism and Transhumanism and the Occult articles.
