Free Energy
Free energy — also referred to as over-unity energy, zero-point energy harvesting, or vacuum energy extraction — is the broad field of research into energy sources that operate outside, or in apparent defiance of, conventional thermodynamic models. While mainstream science dismisses these claims, a significant body of researchers, inventors, and whistleblowers allege that viable free energy technologies have been developed, experimentally demonstrated, and then systematically suppressed by entrenched interests in the energy industry, the defence establishment, and the intelligence community. The pattern of suppression — including patent classification, researcher intimidation, suspicious deaths, and media ridicule — is considered by many investigators to be too consistent and too well-documented to be coincidental. See the dedicated page Free Energy Suppression for a comprehensive treatment of documented suppression mechanisms and cases.

What Is Free Energy?
"Free energy" is an umbrella term covering several distinct but related areas of research, each challenging the orthodox understanding of energy production and thermodynamic limits.
Over-Unity Devices
Over-unity devices are machines that allegedly produce more usable energy output than the conventional energy input required to operate them. Mainstream physics holds this is impossible under the First Law of Thermodynamics (conservation of energy). Proponents argue that such devices are drawing on ambient or background energy sources not accounted for in conventional input measurements — particularly the quantum vacuum — rather than genuinely violating conservation laws.
Zero Point Energy
Zero Point Energy (ZPE) refers to the irreducible quantum energy that persists in a system even at absolute zero temperature. Quantum field theory confirms that the vacuum of space is not empty but seething with virtual particle activity and measurable energy fluctuations — the Casimir effect being one documented demonstration. Some researchers, including Richard Feynman, noted that the energy density of the quantum vacuum is extraordinarily high by conventional estimates. The question of whether this energy can be extracted and harnessed at useful scales remains contested but is taken seriously by a subset of physicists.
Cold Fusion and LENR
Low-Energy Nuclear Reactions (LENR), historically called cold fusion, describe nuclear reactions claimed to occur at or near room temperature — in contrast to the extreme conditions required by conventional plasma fusion. First announced publicly by Pons and Fleischmann in 1989, LENR has since been replicated in independent laboratories worldwide, though it remains officially marginalised. See the dedicated Cold Fusion article and the section below.
Scalar Energy
Scalar Energy refers to energy forms associated with longitudinal or non-Hertzian electromagnetic waves, distinct from conventional transverse electromagnetic radiation. The concept derives significantly from the later work of Nikola Tesla and intersects with torsion field theory. Some researchers propose that scalar energy represents the basis for both free energy extraction and certain claimed weapons and healing applications. See the dedicated Scalar Energy article.
Electrogravatics and Field Propulsion
Electrogravatics (EG) explores the coupling of electrostatic fields with gravitational phenomena to produce thrust, lift, or energy. See the dedicated section below.
Torsion Field Energy
Torsion field theory, developed extensively in the Soviet research tradition, proposes that rotational distortions in the fabric of spacetime carry energy that can in principle be extracted. See the dedicated section below.

Electrogravatics

Electrogravatics (EG) is the theoretical and experimental study of interactions between electric fields and gravitational fields, with the goal of producing lift, propulsion, or extractable energy from electrostatic-gravitational coupling. It represents one of the most thoroughly documented — and allegedly most thoroughly suppressed — branches of advanced energy and propulsion research.
The Biefeld-Brown Effect
The foundational experimental basis of electrogravatics is the Biefeld-Brown effect, first observed and documented by American physicist and inventor T. Townsend Brown in collaboration with physicist Paul Biefeld during the 1920s. Brown observed that high-voltage capacitors — when asymmetrically constructed — generate a measurable thrust in the direction of the positive electrode, suggesting an interaction between electrostatic fields and the local gravitational field. This effect was not explicable by conventional electromagnetic theory alone.
Through the 1940s and 1950s, Brown developed progressively refined demonstrations of the effect, including saucer-shaped craft that allegedly flew in tethered circular paths under entirely electrostatic power, with no moving parts and no conventional propellant. Witnesses to private demonstrations reportedly included military personnel and aerospace industry representatives.
Military Interest and Alleged Classification
According to multiple researchers who have investigated the historical record, Brown's electrogravatic work attracted serious military and aerospace interest during the 1950s. Several aerospace corporations reportedly conducted their own EG research programmes during this period. Then, around 1956–1957, public discussion of electrogravatics abruptly ceased. Aviation industry trade journals that had openly discussed EG propulsion simply stopped covering it.
Researcher and journalist Nick Cook, in his 2001 book The Hunt for Zero Point, documented how engineers and physicists working in the 1950s had openly predicted that electrogravatic propulsion would replace jet propulsion within a decade. Cook, working as aviation editor for Jane's Defence Weekly, traced the paper trail to its sudden disappearance and concluded that the research had been absorbed into classified black budget programmes rather than discontinued. His investigation suggested that the technology was considered too strategically significant to remain in the public domain.
Some researchers draw a direct line between classified EG research and the widespread reports of large, silent, triangular craft observed over populated areas since the 1980s — craft whose flight characteristics (silent hovering, abrupt acceleration, absence of visible propulsion) are difficult to explain using conventional aerospace technology but are consistent with alleged EG propulsion principles. This intersection between advanced energy research and anomalous aerial phenomena is also explored in the context of the 9/11 Directed Energy Hypothesis, which proposes that directed energy weapons employing principles related to electrogravatics and ZPE were implicated in the events of September 11, 2001.
The Hutchison Effect
One notable experimental phenomenon connected to electrogravatics and scalar energy is the Hutchison Effect, demonstrated by Canadian inventor John Hutchison beginning in the 1970s and 1980s. Hutchison reportedly produced effects including levitation of heavy objects, fusion of dissimilar materials, and anomalous energy generation using a combination of high-voltage Tesla coils, Van de Graaff generators, and radio frequency devices operating simultaneously. His laboratory was raided and equipment confiscated on multiple occasions by Canadian authorities. The Hutchison Effect is considered by free energy researchers to be one of the most thoroughly witnessed — and most thoroughly suppressed — demonstrations of principles consistent with both electrogravatics and Scalar Energy extraction. See John Hutchison for a full account.
DARPA and Black Budget Connections
DARPA has historically funded advanced propulsion research under classifications that make independent assessment impossible. Several researchers have suggested that electrogravatic principles inform not only propulsion systems but also Directed Energy Weapons platforms, where the coupling of electromagnetic and gravitational fields at scale could produce devastating focused-energy effects. The DARPA Human Enhancement Programmes context suggests a broader pattern: transformative technologies developed with public funding are routinely classified before reaching public benefit.
The Suppression Pattern
Several engineers and physicists associated with EG-adjacent research have reportedly suffered consequences including career destruction, enforced NDAs, classification orders, and — in some alleged cases — suspicious deaths or disappearances. The abrupt transition from open aerospace-industry discussion to complete silence between 1956 and 1958 is, according to Cook and others, itself one of the most compelling pieces of circumstantial evidence for active suppression. See Free Energy Suppression for a systematic analysis of these mechanisms.
Nikola Tesla and Scalar Energy
Nikola Tesla is perhaps the most prominent figure in the history of suppressed energy research. His early career contributions — alternating current distribution, the AC induction motor, the polyphase electrical system — are thoroughly documented and credited even by mainstream science. His later work is considerably more contested and considerably less accessible.
In the final decades of his life, Tesla reportedly worked on systems for wireless transmission of energy at global scale, scalar wave generation, and what he described as drawing energy from the ambient medium itself — effectively, a practical zero-point or vacuum energy extraction system. His Wardenclyffe Tower project, funded initially by J.P. Morgan, was reportedly cancelled when Morgan understood that Tesla's system would transmit energy freely to any receiver, making metering — and therefore commercial energy billing — impossible. Tesla's scalar wave research is treated in depth in the dedicated Scalar Energy article.
Tesla died in January 1943 in New York. Within days, agents of the US Office of Alien Property, working in conjunction with the FBI, seized all of his papers, notebooks, and experimental equipment. Some documents were eventually returned or declassified; researchers allege that the most sensitive material — relating to scalar wave systems and vacuum energy extraction — has never been released. The FBI's own files on Tesla, obtained through Freedom of Information requests, confirm the seizure but are substantially redacted.
Tesla's concepts of scalar waves, longitudinal electromagnetic waves propagating through the medium, and resonant earth-energy systems are foundational references for the contemporary free energy research community. His documented public statements — including claims to have already solved the problem of free energy and to have been actively prevented from implementing it — are taken seriously by researchers who view his career as a template for how transformative energy science is treated by entrenched power.

Cold Fusion and LENR
On 23 March 1989, electrochemists Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons announced at a press conference that they had achieved nuclear fusion in a simple tabletop apparatus using palladium electrodes in heavy water. The announcement generated enormous excitement globally — and an almost immediate and extraordinarily intense campaign of academic and media ridicule.
Within months, the scientific establishment had broadly declared cold fusion dead, citing failed replication attempts by several high-profile laboratories. What received less coverage was the substantial number of laboratories — including programmes at SRI International, the US Naval Research Laboratory, and eventually institutions in Italy, Japan, India, and elsewhere — that did report replication of anomalous heat and occasionally nuclear byproducts consistent with LENR. By the 2010s, hundreds of peer-reviewed papers reporting LENR effects had been published, yet the mainstream consensus position remained effectively unchanged.
Some researchers have noted that the speed and totality of the initial debunking — unusual in the normally gradual processes of scientific revision — is consistent with the application of organised pressure rather than purely organic scientific scepticism. Fleischmann and Pons both faced personal and professional consequences that effectively ended their mainstream careers.
Eugene Mallove — MIT-trained physicist and science writer, Mallove served as editor of Infinite Energy magazine and was, at the time of his death, arguably the single most credible and publicly prominent scientific advocate for cold fusion and LENR research in the English-speaking world. He had resigned from MIT over what he considered institutional suppression of cold fusion data and had dedicated the subsequent years of his career to building the case for LENR through rigorous scientific journalism. Mallove was beaten to death on 14 May 2004 at a property in Norwich, Connecticut — shortly before a planned major public announcement about breakthroughs in his research. See the dedicated Eugene Mallove article for a full account of his life, work, and death.
James Martinez, broadcaster, researcher, and longtime advocate for cold fusion and Zero Point Energy technologies, has been instrumental in keeping LENR research in public discourse. Martinez has interviewed numerous LENR researchers and documented cases of funding withdrawal, intimidation, and institutional obstruction that he argues constitute a coordinated pattern of suppression rather than mere scientific conservatism.

Notable Inventors and Cases
The following represents a selection of documented or alleged cases in which inventors and researchers working on free energy technologies faced suppression, harm, or unexplained setbacks. The breadth of this list — spanning multiple countries, decades, and distinct technologies — is considered by investigators to be indicative of a systematic pattern rather than coincidence. Many of the deaths documented below involved poisoning, sudden cardiac events, or accidents in suspicious circumstances; in several cases, toxicological analysis revealed contamination by heavy metals and radioisotopes at levels consistent with deliberate exposure rather than environmental or occupational sources. For systematic analysis of these patterns, see Free Energy Suppression.
- Nikola Tesla — Wireless energy transmission, scalar wave research. FBI seizure of papers upon death in 1943. Most advanced work never publicly released. See also Scalar Energy.
- T. Townsend Brown — Documented the Biefeld-Brown effect and built demonstrable electrogravatic craft. Research classified by military in the late 1950s. Largely written out of mainstream aerospace history.
- Royal Raymond Rife — Developed energy-based resonance technology with alleged medical and energetic applications. Laboratory destroyed, equipment seized, professionally destroyed. See Royal Raymond Rife.
- John Hutchison — Canadian inventor who demonstrated levitation, material fusion, and anomalous energy effects using combinations of high-voltage Tesla coil arrays and RF devices. His laboratory was raided and equipment confiscated multiple times. See John Hutchison.
- John Bendini — Developer of the Bedini motor, a pulsed electromagnetic device with alleged over-unity characteristics. Active in the alternative energy research community for decades, sharing designs openly.
- Rory Johnson — Johnson developed a cold fusion laser-activated magnetic motor reportedly capable of generating over 500 horsepower from a compact unit — figures that would have made the technology commercially transformative across transportation and industrial sectors. The US Department of Energy placed a restraining order on his technology, explicitly preventing its publication or public demonstration. Despite being described by colleagues as in excellent health, Johnson died unexpectedly shortly after this order was imposed. No full independent investigation of his death was made public. His work is cited by researchers as a clear case in which regulatory mechanisms were used as instruments of technological suppression rather than safety oversight. See also DARPA and the broader pattern of Information Warfare against alternative energy. See Free Energy Suppression for further analysis.
- Lou Brits & John Christie — Inventors of the Lutec 1000 free energy generator, unveiled in the early 1990s. Brits died under circumstances considered suspicious by associates; Christie subsequently disappeared from public life.
- Stan Meyer (Stanley Meyer) — Inventor of a water fuel cell claimed to enable the operation of a vehicle entirely on water as fuel, through a process of water splitting alleged to be far more efficient than conventional electrolysis — producing hydrogen at an energy cost so low as to constitute effective over-unity when the hydrogen is combusted. Meyer held patents on the technology, and working demonstrations were reportedly witnessed by multiple credible observers. He died on 21 March 1998 after a lunch meeting at a restaurant in Grove City, Ohio, with two Belgian investors who were reportedly interested in funding his research. According to his brother Steve Meyer, Stan collapsed in the restaurant car park immediately after stepping outside. His reported last words, addressed to his brother, were: «I was poisoned.» The official cause of death was recorded as a brain aneurysm. No criminal investigation proceeded. Meyer's patent records remain on public file; independent researchers continue to analyse and attempt to replicate his water fuel cell technology, with results disputed on both sides.
- Dr. John Mullen — A nuclear physicist who had been employed by McDonnell-Douglas, at the time one of the world's largest military aerospace contractors, Mullen reportedly worked on energy-related research that brought him into contact with classified propulsion and advanced energy programmes. He died in 2004 from arsenic poisoning. His girlfriend, who was initially treated as a suspect in the investigation, was herself found dead in her apartment shortly after coming under scrutiny. No investigation was satisfactorily concluded and no trial ever took place. Cross-reference: DARPA · Suppressed Technology · Free Energy Suppression.
- Eugene Mallove — MIT-trained physicist, editor of Infinite Energy magazine, and the most prominent scientific advocate for Cold Fusion research in the English-speaking world. Beaten to death in May 2004 shortly before a major planned public announcement. See the dedicated Eugene Mallove article.
- Dmitry Petronov — A Russian inventor who reportedly developed a working plasma battery that he demonstrated by powering his own home continuously for fourteen months. In 2010, Petronov left his home to visit a local bakery and was never seen again. No body was recovered and no credible explanation for his disappearance was established.
- Zachary Warfield — Another inventor working in the plasma battery space who had made direct contact with Petronov. In the same year as Petronov's disappearance, Warfield died in a boating accident in Washington DC. The proximity in time and subject matter between his death and Petronov's disappearance is considered by investigators to be unlikely to be coincidental. Cross-reference: Information Warfare · Suppressed Technology · Free Energy Suppression.
- Arie deGeus — A researcher and inventor who had patented a free energy technology based on interaction with the Zero Point field, deGeus was found dead in his car at an airport in 2007, apparently while in transit to meet investors who had agreed to fund development of his device. His patents remain on public record.
- Mark Tomion — A physicist who patented a technology he termed the Star Drive, based on the extraction and utilisation of Zero Point Energy, Tomion had progressed his research to the point of a working prototype by 2009. Shortly after completion, Tomion died from an unexpected cardiac event. His research materials were subsequently reported as missing. Cross-reference: Free Energy Suppression.
- James Allen — A documentary filmmaker investigating free energy suppression whose research had reportedly caused discomfort to contractors including Lockheed-Martin. While still editing his documentary, Allen was diagnosed with an exceptionally aggressive cancer and died within three months. An autopsy found his blood to contain twelve distinct heavy metals and radioisotopes at toxic levels, including manganese, beryllium, thorium, and uranium — consistent with deliberate exposure. Cross-reference: DARPA · Directed Energy Weapons · Suppressed Technology · Information Warfare · Free Energy Suppression.
- Mark McCandlish — An aerospace illustrator and technical researcher particularly known for his documentation of the alleged Alien Reproduction Vehicle (ARV) — a classified craft reportedly developed using principles consistent with electrogravatic and Zero Point Energy propulsion. He was found dead in his apartment in Redding, California, in April 2021 in circumstances officially recorded as suicide by gunshot. Associates and researchers have expressed serious doubt about this characterisation. Cross-reference: DARPA · Suppressed Technology · Directed Energy Weapons · 9/11 Directed Energy Hypothesis.
- Max Laughlin — Young inventor who attracted attention for a device allegedly capable of harvesting energy from the quantum field. Went effectively silent after 2016; when he re-emerged, associates noted a marked diminishment in the enthusiasm and specificity of his claims.
- James Martinez — Broadcaster, researcher, and advocate. Has documented numerous cases in which inventors and scientists working on over-unity and alternative energy systems faced intimidation, funding withdrawal, or unexplained setbacks.

Free Energy Suppression
The systematic suppression of free energy research is treated in depth in the dedicated Free Energy Suppression article. The following section summarises the key mechanisms identified by researchers; readers seeking full documentation, case studies, and analysis of the suppression apparatus are directed to that page.
Researchers and investigators have identified several recurring mechanisms by which promising energy technologies are allegedly prevented from reaching the public:
The Pattern of Researcher Deaths
Analysis of the cases documented in the Notable Inventors and Cases section above reveals a set of recurring modalities in how researchers are allegedly eliminated. These include:
- Poisoning — both acute (arsenic, as in the case of Dr. John Mullen; alleged in the dying declaration of Stan Meyer) and chronic via toxic heavy metals and radioisotopes (as evidenced in the autopsy of documentary filmmaker James Allen, whose blood was found to contain twelve toxic heavy metals and radioisotopes simultaneously, including manganese, beryllium, thorium, and uranium).
- Sudden cardiac events — documented in multiple cases involving apparently healthy researchers, including Mark Tomion, and cited as a recurring pattern by investigators. Researchers note that induced cardiac arrest has historically featured in documented intelligence community assassination methodologies.
- Accidents — boating, vehicle, and other accidents in circumstances considered suspicious, including the death of Zachary Warfield and others.
- Disappearances — as in the case of Dmitry Petronov, who left his home in 2010 and was never found.
- Apparent suicides — including the death of Mark McCandlish in 2021, which associates and researchers have contested.
- Aggressive cancers — as in the case of James Allen, whose toxicological findings suggest deliberate radiological or heavy-metal exposure rather than natural oncogenesis.
The additional disappearance of research materials following the death of the researcher — documented in the case of Mark Tomion and alleged in others — suggests that the objective is not merely to silence the individual but to eliminate the technological lineage entirely, preventing independent replication.
For full documentation of researcher deaths, see Free Energy Suppression and Eugene Mallove.
Patent Secrecy Orders
Under 35 U.S.C. § 181 of the United States patent code, the US Patent Office has statutory authority to issue secrecy orders on patent applications deemed threats to national security. Applicants are prohibited from disclosing the contents of classified applications and can face criminal prosecution for doing so. Researchers in the free energy community allege that this authority is routinely applied to energy-related patents that would threaten the centralised energy economy, not solely to technologies with genuine defence implications. The case of Rory Johnson — whose technology was subject to a restraining order by the US Department of Energy preventing publication — illustrates how regulatory mechanisms beyond the patent system can also be weaponised against alternative energy technologies.
Acquisition and Shelving
Large energy corporations and their investment vehicles allegedly identify and acquire promising energy startups specifically to prevent competing technologies from reaching market. This practice — documented in other technology sectors as killer acquisitions — is alleged by researchers to be systematic in the energy space, with acquired technologies shelved or destroyed rather than developed.
Researcher Intimidation
Multiple inventors and researchers have reported visits from individuals identifying themselves as government or intelligence agents, direct threats against themselves or family members, destruction or theft of equipment and research records, and suspicious accidents or health events. The consistency of these reports across different researchers, countries, and decades is considered by investigators to constitute a recognisable pattern rather than isolated incidents. See Free Energy Suppression for documented cases.
Academic Gatekeeping
Peer review structures in physics and engineering journals systematically exclude over-unity and ZPE research through editorial policies that treat the field as definitionally outside acceptable science. Researchers find it effectively impossible to publish in mainstream venues regardless of experimental evidence, limiting their ability to attract funding, collaborators, or institutional credibility. Eugene Mallove's resignation from MIT over institutional suppression of Cold Fusion data is a documented instance of this dynamic.
Media Ridicule
Mainstream media coverage of free energy research is almost uniformly dismissive, employing framing designed to create social and professional costs for engagement with the subject. This constitutes what researchers in Narrative Warfare identify as consensus manufacturing — the use of media systems to define the boundaries of acceptable inquiry in ways that protect specific material interests. See also Cognitive Warfare and Information Warfare.

Connection to the Technocratic Agenda
The suppression of free energy is not merely an economic matter — it is, according to researchers in the technocratic control field, a structural pillar of the emerging global governance architecture.
Centralised energy dependency keeps populations financially subservient and geographically constrained. Control of energy supply is one of the most fundamental forms of population management: a population that cannot generate its own power cannot meaningfully resist centralised authority. This dynamic is directly relevant to the Smart Cities model, in which energy distribution infrastructure doubles as a surveillance and behavioural management network.
The integration of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) with smart energy grids creates the technical possibility of energy rationing by financial status — where an individual's energy access can be adjusted or terminated as a function of social compliance, much as the Social Credit System operates in its documented Chinese implementation. Free energy — genuinely decentralised, individually accessible energy generation — would structurally undermine this control architecture.
The Great Reset economic restructuring model promoted by the World Economic Forum explicitly envisions a world in which resource access — including energy — is managed at the systemic level under sustainability frameworks. Agenda 2030 and its associated Sustainable Development Goals establish the international policy architecture for this management. In this context, free energy technology would represent not simply commercial disruption but a fundamental threat to the technocratic control model.
Some researchers also draw a connection between the suppression of free energy and the events of September 11, 2001. The 9/11 Directed Energy Hypothesis, associated with researchers including Dr. Judy Wood, proposes that the destruction of the World Trade Center towers involved directed energy weapons operating on principles related to Scalar Energy and Zero Point Energy extraction — technologies that, if confirmed, would simultaneously validate the existence of such advanced energy systems and explain the strategic necessity of keeping them classified.

Torsion Fields and Scalar Waves
Torsion field theory proposes that rotational distortions in the fabric of spacetime — distinct from electromagnetic or gravitational fields — carry and transmit energy and information. The concept has deep roots in theoretical physics (Élie Cartan's work in the 1920s established the mathematical basis for spacetime torsion) but was developed most extensively within the Soviet and post-Soviet Russian research tradition. It is closely related to the broader concept of Scalar Energy, which encompasses longitudinal wave propagation and non-Hertzian electromagnetic phenomena.
Nikolai Kozyrev, a Soviet astrophysicist, conducted experiments from the 1950s onward suggesting that time itself possesses a physical structure capable of transmitting energy, and that rotating systems interact with this structure in measurable ways. His work, conducted under Soviet Academy of Sciences auspices, was taken seriously within the Soviet scientific establishment and informed subsequent military-funded research programmes.
Nikolai Kholodov and other Soviet-era researchers extended this tradition, developing experimental apparatus designed to detect and potentially harness torsion field energy. Portions of this research conducted under Soviet military funding remain classified. Researchers who have examined the available literature suggest that torsion fields may represent the theoretical basis for both alleged free energy extraction and certain classes of effects reported in Neuroweapons research — given that torsion fields are proposed to interact with biological systems at the molecular level.
The relationship between torsion field theory and the Schumann Resonance — the resonant electromagnetic frequency of the Earth-ionosphere cavity — is also a subject of active research in alternative physics communities, with some researchers proposing that Schumann resonance phenomena represent a macroscopic manifestation of torsion-field interactions with the planetary electromagnetic environment.
