The three states with the longest and most active programs are Victoria, Tasmania, and New South Wales — and all three have been subject to dedicated legislation.

==== Tasmania 2016: Cloud Seeding Precedes State's Worst Flooding in 40 Years ====
The most significant Australian case study in the relationship between cloud seeding and unintended consequences occurred in June 2016.
On 5 June 2016, an extreme rainfall event in Tasmania's Central Highlands resulted in major flooding that killed three people and caused significant damage to livestock, property and infrastructure. Tasmania's government-owned energy company Hydro Tasmania was asked to explain why it conducted cloud seeding over the Derwent River catchment the day before flooding began.
